First email sent to the newest shill:

Hey new to town :-) You are honestly the most beautiful woman I have ever seen! I know that sounds like a line, but you are! You are breathtaking! You would look amazing in my hoodie. :-) And I would treat you like a queen. Never let your feet hit the ground. You would never have to open a door again. I would never take you for granted, always support you in everything you do, and spoil you rotten with sweet little sticky notes on the fridge telling you how much I adore you. I would tell you how beautiful you look every day and ask how your day was. I would give you a massage every night before you went to bed and even rub your stinky feet. - Wash your hair, make you laugh and smile, and respect you in every way. And I mean all of that honestly. I’m a sweet boy. And this is not some cut and paste email I send out! lol Im in dallas every week FYI
Ok, you don’t have to answer these questions. I want to know EVERRYTHING about you!!! And I’m not a pervert or creepy horn dog FYI. I’m Just an open book. If they offend you I’m sorry. And you can never speak to me again. Just tells me a lot about you. My little personality test. Here goes.

I actualyy like how this guy's flattery was way over the top and then he switches gears and makes her qualify with a personality test. If he made this about half as long it might be effective. But you guys are right he laid it on a little too thick

The guy sent 4 emails since the first one. One containing his phone number, another clarifying that he's not a creepy, perv, another apologizing for coming on so strong, and one asking why she didn't respond...

The over the top flattery was funny...maybe taking it to even further to make it clear that he's just joking may have been in order. Almost cocky/funny about things.

Having the questions was good, but some were too sexual. The BJ question alone would get him blown [out] by pretty much all women. The underwear question was ok, but borderline. The pubic hair question may have been a little too far.

I totally agree. He's prob a total creeper. But trying to highlight the one positive of his initial approach. One of us that actually understands shit could change this into something usable, maybe even something good.

Way ahead of you...I've taken the basic idea and have started ammending it to make it more cocky/funny and less creepy.

Update on the second shill. Due to a glitch in Match.com, the men from Dallas that contacted the first shill are being told by Match that they've already contacted this member even though the profile is completely different (different pics, different username, different writing).

As such, the interest this shill is generating is anemic. So, I've decided to post this shill in a different city. It kind of hurts the study a little bit because we don't get to see how the same pool of guys reacts to different profiles. BUT, if the generic response we've gotten from the Dallas lot are any indication, I'm sure the responses will be similar in other cities.

The newest shill is not getting any where near the same response as the first. Admittedly, she's more alternative looking than the first girl. She's still hot, but has tats, multi-colored hair, etc.

There are way too many variables to make an assumption right now. She could not be getting the interest because she's more alternative OR it could be that she's just not as hot as the first girl (although, I would argue that that's not the case).

The responses from the guys are still very much the same. A lot of "Hi, Hello, Hey, etc." Very little originality. The responses seem to be one of two varieties: 1) short and sweet (Hi, I liked your profile. You seem like fun. Read mine and if you're interested email me back) OR 2) CANNED emails that are long and, obviously, ambiguous.

All of the openers are BORING. Sometimes, they give me their number in the first volley which I can't imagine ever works.

It's clear to me that guys don't actually READ the profile. They just look at the pics and send a ton of emails out. I've gotten quite a few from the same guy with the same fucking email. I cannot imagine any girl on here wanting to stay very long.

I've decided to start sending winks to guys and seeing what they write in return. I get opened quite a bit on my profile and I'd like to see how other guys handle the same thing. My guess? Aggressive desperation. Not aloof, playfulness.

Stats:

Emails: 29
Winks: 67
Views: 440
Favorited: 2
Interests: 8

This is since Sunday morning. So, it's been up and running for 4 days. Clearly, you can see she's not getting the same response as the hotter, more traditional girl got. She's getting viewed A LOT though, just no emails. The first girl had a contact ratio (emails + winks / views) of ~32%. This one is getting a contact ratio of ~22%. With an email ratio roughly half of the first shill. I find that odd because she has more meat in her profile to play off of. It seems that the hotter girls get emailed, while the ones that aren't quite as hot get winked at. Guys seem to change their level of investment based on hottness, which we all know is the kiss of death.

Yes. SNL (which happens way too often).

Shill #2: Results

Postby Guest » Mon Oct 25, 2010 12:14 pm

I had to move this shill to a different city because of a flaw in Match's system. Even if you change the name of the profile and the entire profile itself, if someone contacted the profile in some way, then the system shoes that they contacted this person even if it's a completely different person.

So, I moved the profile to Houston instead of Dallas.

Here are the results:

Hits: 654
Emails: 43
Winks: 89
Times Favorited: 2
Men Interested: 13 (outside of winks/emails)
IM Requests: 0

Compared to the first shill, this one got much less interest. The hits were comparable, but the contact ratio (emails + winks divided by hits) fell from 32% to 20%. Further, the complete and total lack of IM requests is startling to me. The first shill had 20 requests, this one 0.

As for the profile, here it is:

26 years old, Athletic and Toned, white, and 5'2''

Let's pull off a caper...

Just found out that I got a new gig in H-town!!! Yeah me!!! Guess I'll be moving, AGAIN :(

26 years young-footloose and fancy free, well until now....figured I'd give this match. com thing a go 'round. If nothing else, maybe I'll meet some good friends to hang out with. I'm daddy's lil' girl and Momma's little angel....HA ;-! I don't think I'll ever grow up...I love to laugh, and I love good, positive open-minded people. I'm an only child, so I love big families! I'm from the east coast, Born in Chi-town (DaBears!), but raised in Sunny Florida--Yes I'm a Bear by birth, but a Bucs fan @ heart!!!! And yes, I miss Dungee, and no I am not upset Gruden is gone! Working out and football are HUGE parts of my life. I love to try new things, only it’s always better to try them in good company. Never been married, and if I do, I only want it to be once. I used to think I was a hardball, but the older I get, the more I begin to believe I am a true woman---and believe in happy endings....go figure, they played all my favorite movies on TV for Valentine’s day....yep I thought it was "romantic COMEDIES" that I was into, but nope it’s just flat out chick flicks...horrible right!?!?!? Anyways, I think I'm pretty laid back, don't like drama, and I pretty much like to go with the flow. I'd rather my date make decisions on where and what we do. Guess I'm kinda old fashion in that since, don't get me wrong--I'm very independent and I LOVE my alone time, but I still believe in my knight in shining armor---yep and all those "fun things" that go along with it (Sorry Boys..hehee)--like opening doors and making me feel safe, and being able to change your own tire if you get a flat....I know EVERYONE has AAA now, but you know...if push comes to shove. Anyways, I've toyed around w/ this idea for awhile, but I finally figured after my chick flick epiphany....why not, what have I got to lose? So if you're interested in knowing more about me, let me know. If not Hope you all find what you're looking for.....

for fun:

Fun for me depends on the day & my mood, I like little cozy bars where the patrons are friendly: yep like Cheers! I Love the outdoors & the beach, good movies, good music, boating w/ friends, U can find fun anywhere if u have the right crowd

I'm an ER Nurse...haven't decided if I want to stay on this floor or move to a different area yet.

my religion:

I grew up Catholic, but haven't been to a catholic church in years. I believe everyone has to believe in something, or someone, and I do say my prayers @ night....but I don't go to church....c'mon, I can't miss football on sundays! ;-)

favorite things:

"Raindrops on roses; whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles; warm woolen mittens.~these are a few of my favorite things!" Hehee JK, get to know me better and you'll learn what I really like! Its NOT the sound of music, but I do love to laugh

I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell by Tucker Max----yep I read it, and I felt like I tapped into the minds of all the men I know---just for a brief moment in time.....Great book though, recommend it to those not easily offended.

Comparing the pics with the first shill, it's easier to tell what the first shill looks like because all of her pics show her face clearly. This may have had some impact in the results, although I suspect most guys just need one pic to confirm that she is or isn't hot.

Now, this girl is admittedly much, much more alternative than the first shill. Clearly, this is the kind of chick that I'm most interested in meeting. I love alternative women, love them. So I was most interested in this profile and the responses to it.

Because she is so alternative, she just didn't pique as much interest in men as I would have expected. For the guys that did hit her up, they were very, very boring. Again, generic emails. "Hi, hello, hey, etc." email openers. If there was meat to the email it was clearly a canned email because it was ambiguous and it was just a regurgitation of their actual profile.

I sent out a couple of winks and all of them resulted in an email. Even being the aggressor, the guys still had nothing to say of any substance. I thought this was very, very sad. It seems like they all play it safe in their emails. No one takes a risk. The closest things I see to risk taking behavior on the Internet is the guy giving the girl his number in the first volley. But, this then requires her to contact him. That's a big hoop to ask them to jump through.

I've given my number out to a lot of girls and they usually just respond to me with their number instead of contacting me. And, this is after I've built a little bit of comfort and rapport with her.

Another reason I wanted to test this alt chick is because there is a lot of peacocking going down with her. Hair, piercings, tats, etc. That's a lot of meat for guys to seize to...and, they did. They commented on the most obvious things about this shill. Hi, I love your tats. Cool hair. Etc. In my experience, you never point out the obvious on a woman because everyone else already does. Ignore the obvious shit, focus on the small stuff, or just make something up. It helps you to stand out from the crowd.

Another interesting thing about this shill was the juxtaposition between the profile she wrote and her physical image. The profile doesn't look like it came from her. And, she doesn't look like the type to write that profile. I was hoping that a softer profile, with words, would offset the more intimidating, alternative look. Keep in mind that I stole this profile, in it's entirity, from one I found from California so this person most likely does exist (you never know on the Net).

Gunslinger had mentioned that all of the betas flocked to the first shill because the pictures looked too professional. I think he's right and wrong. First, all of the guys that hit up the second shill, save for maybe one, were betas. I think the reason that the first shill got way more hits is because betas have a higher tendancy to be intimidated by a woman that is peacocking as much as this chick is AND because betas only care about how a woman LOOKS. 9 out of 10 guys will say the first shill is hotter than this one. From a traditional perspective, I agree. However, I find the alternative girl to be the one that makes my man meat move more than the first shill.

So, it's clear and a given, that the hotter she is the more hits she's going to be getting. First shill is hotter, therefore, she got more hits and responses. Second shill was not as hot but was more intimidating, therefore, she got fewer hits and responses.

For my next shill, I'm going to post a girl with a short profile with a HUGE, bitchy disqualifier but that is as hot as the first shill. I'm curious to see how many guys get fail her shit test by not contacting her and how they open someone that has almost nothing written in their profile.

My guess? The same as the other two shills: "Hi, you seem interesting...blah, blah, blah, blah."

I will also be sending out winks to men to prompt them to play along. I'm still hoping to see some good examples of starting a conversation after you know she's interested.

Not that it has anything to do with the study, but I'm suspicious. The headline is a line from The Pickup Artist from VH1, and she says she read I Hope They Server Beer in Hell. Not that it matters, because most betas on match won't pick up on that, so to speak.

This profile does portray a strong personality, which betas will shy away from.

Hmmm...interesting. Lots of girls say they've read Beer in Hell. But the caper line is a bit off...

Then again, this world is a whole lot smaller than we think it is.

I think the second shill didn't work as well because the profile and pictures are in-congruent. Guys have a bullshit detector too, and I think that it may have gotten triggered. I'm not saying they thought she was a fake, but maybe that she was fucking crazy.

The profile to me reads like "The girl next door" and the sexual stereotype of the pics reads as indy/alternative rocker. This is what struck me about the profile vs the pics.
