Don't knock canned material but think more about how the system you have chosen to use has been thoroughly field tested and works. Don't try to out think it or pick ways why it doesnt work for you. Don't throw out the baby with the bath water. if you arent getting bitch shield, cool, move past it to the next part.
Way too many people try to reinvent the wheel because they can't believe this simple shit works. Well it does, and it does so for thousands of guys.
You make a good point. The routines are not the process. Sure, you might not want to walk up to a lone girl in a book store and ask her who lies more (then again, you might). Different venues might require different openers, routines, and other material. However, if you run indirect game, then run indirect game. If you run direct game, then run direct game. The venue doesn't matter. You still need to demonstrate the qualities of an alpha male: good body language, strong voice, etc.
Once you get to A3 (which is basically where you start with direct game), the venue doesn't matter. You want to bounce her or establish a time bridge anyway. It doesn't matter if she's goth or hip-hop or a granola eating backpacker.
DeuceX, your original post reminded me of Mystery's "you are a song" routine. I really like that one, although I have yet to use it in the field. In fact, that is a universal routine that could be used right after any opener in any venue, and it sort of demonstrates exactly what you were talking about. It neutralizes the perceived differences right away.
