So I went...entered with my group of friends, and sets were SCARCE. I opened a could of 4-5 sets w/ UGs and guys just to warm up I used the sweater opener, and room mate dating bi chick. They worked out pretty well...and got me warmed up.
One of my main sticking points has been my mind going blank after I open...so last night after I opened...if conversation didn't go anywhere I'd throw out something like "That's a nice jacket...for a 5th grader." It worked! It then lead in to a bit of story time, and a easy roll-off to next set or whatever.
At some point a 3set of strippers came in, and I opened them with the sweater opener (I got nervous though so I used the fake British accent...) and that set worked like a charm. I told them I was a drink psychic and if I could guess their drinks, they'd buy mine. I got 2 out of 3, and they said that was good enough. I couldn't really get far with this set, so I bowed out gracefully. Revisited for jealousy later...more on that.
During the performance of the band I went to see (my old roommate's band) I spotted a 2set of HB6/7 walk in. Didn't follow the 3 sec. rule due to the loud fuckin' music. Once it was over, I found them at the bar, approached...and before I could say anything...the 6 opened me.
HB6: "I like your scarf."
Me: "No you don't, you like my ass."
HB7: "Haha...cocky aren't we."
Me : "No sir, just good at following eyes." (don't ask me why I said sir)
Everytime I'd start running out of things to talk about, I'd just pick something around us or something completely random and just comment about it, and it sparked more convo.
I talked up a bouncer when I was with them at some point, who turned in t o a make-shift wingman for myself...because he occupied the 6 while I pulled the 7 off to the dark side of the outside bar. Kiss/# close.
That was my 1st successful set close since I've started MM...and my 1st close in 6 months w/o using the accent. I'm quite amazed how well I put my learnings to work...and look forward to climbing up the HB scale on my next outting.
Focker out.
