Downtown FTW

Postby Scoundrel » Sun Dec 02, 2007 8:46 pm

I started out my night wearing dark wash lucky jeans, a light pink button down shirt (I don’t normally wear a button down after dark, but my pink oxford needs to go to the cleaners) and a black velvet blazer. First I went to a coffee house where I have a lot of friends. It’s a good place to get into a talkative mood. While I was there, I struck up a conversation with a 5’10” redheaded 9. We talked fashion and about the downtown scene. I told her I wanted to check out the Aqua Lounge and she said she’d never been there. But, she wanted to hear what I thought of it. So I got her number and email address.

The coffee house closes at 9, so I went to Old South for food and to see if any other PUAs were coming to meet me. While I was waiting there was a cute little platinum blonde sitting with two other cute girls and a young black man. All the girls were 9s and the blonde was giving me EC. But, they looked like high-school kids. So, I didn’t open them.

I had my food and waited, but by 10:20 no one had showed. I paid my bill and headed downtown.

After I parked I ran into a street musician I knew. He told me exactly how to get to the Aqua and invited back for a jam sometime. I may take him up on that.

I got to the Aqua Lounge about 11, paid the cover and went upstairs. I liked the vibe of the place, but they didn’t have any barstools and it’s a no smoking bar. I’m a smoker, so I finished my drink and left. I made a point to ask if I could smoke before paying anymore covers.

I’d heard about a place called city streets, but when I got there the line to get in was a block long. I don’t wait in line to go in bars.

Not too far away was the 8.0. I went in there and as I was standing at the bar waiting for my drink I felt a hand on my shoulder. “Hey” I said, “keep your hands to yourself.” It was a nice looking older woman. She pointed at a brunette 8 and said it was her birthday and that I was what she wanted as a gift. I told her I could be had, but I wasn’t cheap. I told the brunette happy birthday and tinked glasses with her. She wanted me to guess her age. I thought I’d go C&F and said 40 (she’d just turned 21). She gave me the big mouth and wide eyes look and I smirked.

At this point I got that nervous feeling in my stomach. I get this when I think things are going well, when a girl may actually like me. So I went out on the patio to chill for a few minutes. I sat at a table, closed my eyes, took a few deep breaths and tried to relax.

I finished my drink and went back in for a coke. I still wasn’t feeling well, but I noticed a blonde in a 3 set giving me EC. So I opened them, but I was blown out pretty quickly.

Around this time Birthday girl found me again. But, it was near the dance floor and I couldn’t hear what she was saying. This is the worst thing about bars. I have a loud enough voice, I can make myself heard, but if I can’t hear what the girl is saying I don’t know what to do.

She tried to pull me onto the dance floor. But, I don’t dance. I have a bad knee. I left her there.

City streets didn’t have a line now, so I walked over there. On the way I was getting a lot of EC from girls walking with their arms around other guys. I don’t get this. She’s hugging one guy, but smiling at me? Anyone know what’s going on with this?

Inside city streets I saw a lot of girls being gamed by other guys. As I passed they’d give me EC, smile and look down. It’s hard to explain, but I’m sure you guys know the look I mean. It’s the same look I was getting on the street. I tried to come up with something to open. What do you say to a chick that has her back to the wall with some guy leaning into her, trying to pick her up? Then it hit me. If any of you have read the hitchhiker’s guide, you’ll know this one.

“Hey babe, is this guy boring you? Why not talk to me instead. I’m from a different planet. It’s true! My spaceship is right outside.” I said it as a laugh, but it fucking worked! The girl would take my arm and I’d lead her off. But, the guy would be PISSED. Anyway, I number closed another 3 girls using that opener.

These number closes were all pretty soft (except the first one in the coffee house) and I know I could have gotten at least a make out with birthday girl. But, I’m out there! I’m opening sets. I’m getting better.

I'm a Fort Worth guy myself. That Sundance Square area is good on weekends.
Pour House is pretty good on Thursday nights.

You and I will have to meetup sometime and do some sets. I really like Blue Monkey for kareoke. Its almost a Jaliax-type thing I guess.

I used to go for kareoke at Blue Monkey and get myself into a good state and then head out to a second venue around midnight.
That was my old routine.

The black dude who does the M.C. at The Blue Monkey is a hoot. He's had the whole crowd laughing their asses off. I think his name is Bernard. Good guy and he's good social proof too.

I've been to Aqua Lounge once and it wasn't that happening.
Why should I listen to you when you don't even get laid?

there is a door at the back of aqua lounge that goes to a smoking room. and in there are just round cocktail tables and stools to hang out on. just for future reference...

8.0's is fun, but you seem more like a bar guy and less of a club guy... for downtown fort worth you should try houston's street bar, the library, pour house, and flying saucer.

but of course, there is always the cellar, moon and aardvark.

DTFW at night is the best of the metroplex imo. During the day, the place is dead unfortunately.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind about the Aqua. Something else about that place, all their ads say "dress to impress," but I was far and away the best dressed person there. In fact, I think most of them looked pretty shabby.

I've been to the flying saucer many times over the years and I don't care for it. But, I couldn't tell you why.

I miss the wreck room!

Some of the other places you mentioned I go when I know the band playing and I'm on the guest list.
