Near Disaster on a Date and Cultural Considerations

Last Thursday I met a girl at the bar who is from Mexico. The pick up was nothing special and mostly direct game. She told me her name but I couldn’t understand due to her accent and the loud music. I ended up setting a date up over text but it was a bit of a battle. This was the conversation after some back and forth bantering:

Me: Summer, I am from Maryland but not used to the cold anymore. When u free this week
Her: It depends if is something interesting…I can make time…
Me: Of course it is interesting, Hooters. Then if we have fun, some of my other favorite places
Her: Sounds good..when would you like 2 go?
Me: When do you have time
Her: Oops I was studying…I guess Tuesday
Me: Cool, come to my place [inserted address] at 8pm and I will drive us
Her: lol I have no idea where it is
Me: Use mapquest ;) how many finals do you have
Her: Haha maybe no
Me: So you want directions
Her: I guess I am not going
Me: That is your choice. Or I can pick you up
Her: That could be sweet
Me: Send me your address
Her: Maybe I’ll be at the library haahah
Me: [2 days later] so you want me to be at the library at 8
Her:Mmm…I think I’ll be at my house..It’s too cold to be at the library
Me: Yea, its crazy outside! Where do you live

She gave me only the name of the apartment and then finally the intersection of the street. It is pretty clear that she didn’t trust me very much and I almost flaked on her because I was getting sick of her dilly dallying. Finally, I went to her place and a girl answered the door. I recognized her from the other night and assumed she was my target. I was talkative and normal to her and her roommate and then another girl came into the living room. I introduced myself and the girl who answered the door laughed and said we had already met. I joked that I am bad with faces and just kept talking. Then I asked the original girl if she was ready for the bar. She said she couldn’t cause she was busy with studying. I was confused. I was thinking maybe she had changed her mind and didn’t want to go. Then, I realized that the original girl was dressed in a sweatshirt and sweatpants along with the 1st roommate and the girl I introduced myself to was dressed to the nines! Holy shit, I had been flirting with the wrong girl and even asked her if she was ready! Somehow this didn’t hurt me (I think I came off as just being friendly to all the girls). With that settled, my actual target and I left for the bar with a stern warning from the original girl that “If you do anything to her, I will kill you!” Wow, that was a bit excessive.

This is also cuz you're used to picking up girls in bars... a lot of normal non-club/bar girls are more careful like this and it's not unusual in my experience. Don't drop a girl automatically just because she's wary of you to start off... you could be some crazy date rapist for all they know.

You'll get more from her if you keep seeing her if you made out first date... she's a nice girl, not a hiz-o ;)
