Here's the thread from the chick that I went out with Wednesday night (the one I had the text volley with HB Shorty). I've met her in person and will see her again tomorrow night.

Again, I opened her with one of my canned emails and, again, will not post it here.

HB Shorty's Response

You are mighty clever as well as cute, impressive.

Have you always lived in Dallas? What do you like to do for fun besides meeting girls on the internet? I am new to Dallas, but I love it so far. Everyone I have met has been really nice and I love Uptown because there is so much to do here! Do you have big plans for the weekend?
I hope you are having a great Friday-

Cute and clever. Thank you. But, I have plenty of other parts that just as impressive, if not more so ;)

I've lived in Dallas since I was 2, so I know the city very, very well. For example, I know that the best tacos in the city can be found at a gas station, the best martinis in the city can be found at a movie theater, and the one of the best dance clubs is attached to a convenience store...

For fun, I like making prank calls pertending to be a mime, reading the encyclopedia, stealing garden gnomes, you know the normal stuff people enjoy ;) Really though, I'm really big into live music, indie flicks, love working out, discovering new joints to eat and hang out at, just took up boxing, and all the other things people do for fun (friends, food, booze, sports etc.).

No big plans here. Normal weekend. Went to a concert last night, hanging with the fam this afternoon, doing a little shopping today for some belated b-day gifts for ME, dinner and drinks with the guys tonight, then Sunday Funday!!!

HB Shorty's Response

So Bull Run, tell me, what movie theater has the best martinis in the city of Dallas and which night club is attached to a convenience store?? I can't believe stealing garden gnomes is on your list of favorites, mine is too! :) How do you like boxing so far? I just started with a new trainer and I am hoping she will teach me how to box. I think it would be a great stress reliever. Where do you go to learn? Did you see Bush on Friday night? If so, I am totally jealous! How was the afternoon with the fam? By the way, Happy Belated Birthday! I hope you got something fun while shopping.

I hope the rest of your weekend was great, talk to you soon-

I see how it is...you're going to use this Internet stranger for venue recommendations...I feel so used ;)

No worries. I don't like to brag (ok well maybe a little), but I know where all of the diamond in the rough venues are in Dallas. Since you asked and you seem cool, I'll fill you in on some of my little secrets...

Martini's: Inwood Lounge, it's attached to the Inwood Theatre, which I find to be the best place to catch an indie flick or late night showing of an obscure cult classic. They still play Rocky Horror and people do get dressed up and play along with the film. BONUS: you can bring your martini in the movie with you OR just chill in the retro lounge.

Dance club: The Slip Inn, off of Henderson. It's across the street from Barcadia and Cafe San Miguel (great Tex-mex). It's a total dive, but that's what makes it so awesome.

No Bush here, although I was in the venue upstairs from where they were playing. Instead, I saw one of my favorite indie acts, Foxy Shazam. Total glam band. Music, not so good. Performance, hard to beat. And, I discovered some other bands that have some real potential.

So, HB Shorty, email is fun and all. But, I wonder, do you speak text?

Bull Run

HB Shorty's Response

Thanks for filling me on some of Dallas's best kept secrets! I have actually been to Inwood theater, but never tried the martini there, so I must put it on my list. I have heard quite a few things about the Slip Inn on Henderson, including that it is a little scary at times. :) So what is the best place to get tacos? Although I am not a fan of Indie flicks or music, I do speak text, xxx.xxx.xxxx...give me a shout if you like. Hope you are having a great Monday.
