Wouldn't calling a girl right in front of her be almost like admitting you thought she would give you a fake number and in that case admitting that you are used to getting fakes? Or is there a way to do this so that I'm not listening to the "rejection hotline" right in front of her? And what do I do if I AM listening to this hotline in front of her?
If she's given you the rejection hotline, you've already failed the sarge. Of course girls don't really give this hotline. I've gotten it once (from an immature 16-yr old girl), and I've gotten over 100 #-closes.
That said, if you do get the rejection hotline, I would bust on her hard.
MBB: Oh cool, the rejection hotline! We used to use this in highschool on girls we didn't like. We kinda outgrew it though, I didn't know it still existed. Did some guy give you this when you asked for his number?

If you bust on her too hard, you look hurt. And she thinks you're a jerk for making her feel bad. It's your fault she feels bad.
I might laugh a very genuine laugh, because it is pretty funny. Then I'd say to her friend, "well, I might as well get a fake number from you too. I like pizza. Make it a pizza place this time." Then I'd hand my phone to her friend. This puts social pressure on the friend. Now it's her fault her friend feels bad, and I'm still having a good time, which is a DHV.
But just like Westfall said, girls don't give out fake numbers. They give out their numbers very easily actually. If you did something wrong, she probably won't answer when you call. Flakes happen all the time, but wrong numbers don't.
