i feel so defeated - FR: Friday, August 14, 2009

so, lazarus and i was met up at black friar last night to do a little uptown sarging (thad and zine met us up later; then we see vector and the whole crew - interesting night!)

the night started off slow. i was a little tired from work and had a lack of sleep the night before but decided to go out anyways, wth...so i order a red bull and drink it to help boost my state and energy.

bam! lazarus was in a 3 set and from what i can see, was doing well.

i walk around a little bit, check out the venue and notice a seated two set in the upstairs patio. they were both very cute - id say hb8 blonde and hb7 brunette. i scope out the set a bit and definitely wanted to open the set...

a few minutes later, lazarus pulls me into his set, but feeling a little uncomfortable, i eject. we rendezvous a bit later and chit chat, the set was clearly going no where.

we walk upstairs and he forces me to open the two set and i do. i open with lazarus' opener:

Prodigy: hey! you guys look like fun, i just had to come say hi...[and i motion a cheers -they laughed and we all touch drinks]
HB7: why are you drinking red bull?
Prodigy: well i had a long day at work and needed an energy boost. the night is still young you know...
HB8: yea, what is it, like 11?
Prodigy: it is, but since im a grandpa, im usually in bed by now [with a huge grin to show im joking]
HB7: whatever! what are you, like 24?
Prodigy: actually i am...and let me guess youre 16 and shes 18? how did you guys even get in? [they looked younger and this made them laugh]
HB8: haha no, were both 22, but shes older
HB7: yea i turn 23 in a couple of months.

so to save you the boredom, i was in set for approximately 20-25 minutes discussing a variety of topics from: gay bars/S4, family, school, life, studying abroad, etc...in my mind the interaction is going very well. HB7 was totally into me whereas HB8 was hot and cold. i did the eye gaze with HB7 and mustve held eye contact for 6-7 seconds without saying anything and she held eye contact the whole time with a smile on her face. i THOUGHT i had this girl and it was in the bag...i eject on a high point (maybe i shouldve number closed at this point) and say:

Prodigy: well ive gotta go say hi to my friends, well chat a little later [i eject and regroup with lazarus, thad and zine]

several minutes later, i see HB8 blonde go to the restroom, and with HB7 brunette alone, this would be the perfect time to number close. i walk over and sit down in her friends chair:

Prodigy: you look bored! [huge smile on my face]
HB7: no, im good. i just like to people watch
Prodigy: haha thats funny, all these people here are so fake and pretentious...
HB7: yea, so true...thats why i like to do it..
Prodigy: well hey, youre cute and seem like a lot of fun...[she cuts me off]
HB7: youre not so bad looking yourself [saying it with a smile]
Prodigy: ..and i think we should definitely hang out, maybe even check out S4 together [smiling - tying back to an earlier thread]. give me your number and lets make it happen...
HB7: [obviously flattered, she politely declines] that sounds like fun, but i have a boyfriend...
Prodigy: thats ok, he can make us dinner...! [i was totally un-fazed by the fact that she mentioned she had a bf, i was playing it cool]
HB7: haha! did you say he can cook for us?!
Prodigy: indeed i did...[huge grin]
HB7: well, he is moving soon...[pause -shes clearly debating on wether to give me her number at this point] but he might not..i dont think hed like it very much...
Prodigy: haha thats cool, but youre missing out!

we chat a bit more and her friend comes back. and all three of us continue to chat for another 5-10 minutes and i eject as i had already failed to number close.

the four of us bounce all around uptown without doing much and we see vector with several other community guys on mckinney ave and decided to go back to black friar...

i was back at black friar and i saw HB8 sitting on some guys lap and HB7 talking to two other dudes (this was at like 130am or so)...long story short, the two set walks out with these three guys at the end of the night...

now that couldve been their bf's as they mentioned, or HB7 couldve lied about having a bf...who knows. i thought my game was better and shouldve number closed HB7...!

i feel defeated as i didnt number close and this set i was "gaming" left with some other dudes....

WTF?! :mad:

..time to get better....:cool:

things i did well:
- good body language
- great conversation, tying in mulitple threads
- had good energy
- hoooked the set with some good topics
- eye contact
- smiling
- was having fun
- engaged both girls in convo

things i need to work on:
- kino
- number close earlier (?)

lazarus, thad, zine, please add any observations or critique you may have...

Sounds to me like you did just fine...just bad luck. You say you need to work on kindo, but in a 2 set like that...at a table...it's hard to really do much (if at all) in that region. Tables put too much space between ya for it to be natural.

You probably could have pressed a bit more and got the #, maybe switched over to a friendlier reason for contacting her (then how about you give me your number so I can text random stuff to you to make you giggle while you're working) or something along those lines. That'd give you time to find out more about this moving bf and butter her up for when he does bolt.

First of all, kudos for opening that set man :)

Seated sets make it hard to lock in, so one thing I've done a few times is tell my target: Hey, let me show you this really cool trick before I get back to my friends - and then I do the spin move (basically spin them out of their chair, steal it, and spike their BT. credit Mystery?) I did it to a two set inside blackfriar when we went back - I can demonstrate it next time if you don't know it.

I don't know - the set looked fine from where I was standing, but one of the problems I had all night was that all of my convos were platonic. Do you think that may have been a problem in this case?
