FR: Test the waters before jumping in

Postby Guest » Mon May 18, 2009 10:32 pm

Ah, its field report time again. I know my giant fan club would have loved for me to write one up last week, but a week of finals and a lot of ice cream duty held me back from that. You can't underestimate the power of the enemy (blue bell). So I am a week off of my FR goal.

My memory of the night is sighly sketchy, probably due to lack of sleep or something, so this won't be a very detailed little story. So, we decided to hit Ra up. I haven't been here in a few months, and my fucked up schedule hasn't lent me time to do much of anything lately, and it shows, I'm rusty like a trombone, er, not a good analogy. Anyway, me, wildman and Solace are rolling up to Ra Sunday night. I am pretty tense on the way in, I always am, its even worse for clubs. Any ideas how to losen up? I guess my AA was just large. We get there, hang around for a bit. I open a two set of 7s, I talk to em briefly, doesn't go anywhere. I def need to work on doing rush hour when I go out, talking to everyone once I enter the venue. I Walk around a little bit, open some sets here and there, nothing important going on. I know I need to talk to everyone, so I talk to a couple old chicks milling about. It goes pretty good ok, but I'm not too interested obviously, so I move on after a bit.

We are supposed to be celebrating something tonight...not quite sure what it was, but either way this calls for shots! So me and Solace go up to the bar to get some shots. I'm like what should we get? He thinks royal fucks are good, but I'm not sure. I ask a couple girls next to us at the bar what we should get, they say royal fucks too (esp?) and a brief conversation ensues. The bar tender asks what we want and Solace says 2 royal fucks, I'm like nah, fuck that, get us four, we need 2 shots a piece. The bartender makes em and says oh ya, those are $9 each, so thats $36. Damn man, I didn't know this was uptown. Just a lesson for you guys out there, when ordering a shot, start with one or two to test the waters before ordering 4 or more. I just spent a months worth of rent on shots. Was it worth it? Definetly not.

Anyway, I walk around again, do some more loops, talk to more people. I honestly am not keen on the details of the night, its a bit blurry to tell you the truth and I have a headache to top it off. I do know that nothing hooked for the night. Evertime I go to Ra I see at least one person I know for some reason. I counted 3 last night. Hmmm, so the end of the night comes and we drive home, I get home and am asleep for 3 hrs before I gotta get up and start the day again.

What I need to work on: My goal is to try and go out at least 3 days a week, it will be difficult, but I need the practice. I noticed I had some difficuly stacking last night. I need to get out more.

- Find the price of drinks before ordering, probably the most important lesson of the night. Test the waters before jumping in.

- Rush hour: I need to talk to everyone and everything once I get to a venue, get me into social state. My goal is to have no less than 5 warm up sets upon entering a venue.

- Kino: Big issue for me, this stems to inner game, but I am always worried its gonna be awkward and I'm gonna touch to much. But as of now I am barly kinoing. I need to over do it and kino too much before I can calibrate it back a bit. Escalation needs to be done too.

- Not be in my head so much: Prodigy commented on this in his [link=http://www.dallaslair.org/p/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?31683.last]field report[/link]. I think too much about what is going on around me. It makes me not take as many risks as I should. I am worried that if I do this that I will look dumb and blow my value in the venue, especially in a small one such as Ra. I know that more than likely that is not an issue, but logic doesn't win over on these issues.

It's kinda weird, I didn't get anything spectacular done and was a bit high on anxiety when entering the venue. Yet when the night was over I was a bit sad and wanted to do it again. Seems very bipolar. Love it but hate it.

So stay tuned for my next outing adventure, it should be a better story if I can get some sleep and remember the details of the night. Cheers Dallas.

Another option: don't drink. Or drink before hand, if you must. Really saves on $$!

Bring your own liquor in a flask and carry it in the pocket of your jacket.

Just/Us, I agree with Vector: I have not had a drink in 2 years and I saved A LOT( i love my 4 dollar tabs at the end of the night)! And as far as your job goes, have you considered looking for work at other places where you wont be working 12-14 hours a day?
