Need HELP w/ "soft" number!

Postby Guest » Thu Aug 02, 2007 3:50 pm

Earlier this week I was at a club, and the place was dead. So dead that the cutest waitress in the place came and sat w/ me pass the time (I had invited her to do so earlier when she asked what I wanted to drink). Our conversation was OK, but I could have done a lot better. We found some things in common and I did get her to laugh.

Anyway, I went to find her before I left and asked if I could get her number so we could hang out soon. She got that familiar uneasy look on her face and said "probably not."
me: It's just to hang out... no pressure or anything.
her: *pause* ...well OK.
me: Cool, I'll put your number in my phone.
her: Just make sure you spell my name right.
[She has an uncommon spelling of a common name, but I recited the correct spelling to her. Thank goodness for name tags.]

I'm calling this a "soft" number b/c she didn't seem enthusiastic at first but she did ultimately give the number.
So what's my best move here? We got along well but there was hesitation to give me the digits. Should I drop by to see her again before using the number? It's not going to be convenient for me to be a regular at her club, so I can't warm her up to me over a long period of time.
All useful help is appreciated.

Sup Omni,

Run the usual phone game - call her up and make her remember you from last time by bringing up something that made her laugh. Really spike her attraction on the phone. Tell her about something fun you will be doing that night. Talk to her for several minutes, then ask her out

In your pick ups, to make getting numbers easier, you should timebridge - while you are just having your regular conversation, discuss what you guys would be doing if you hang out together - then get the number later. This makes getting numbers easier and makes calling for dates later easier also

That time bridge stuff is a good idea. I can see where I've used in the past almost by accident.

Just as an update, I did stop by to see her again. She sat & talked for a while b/c she was bored again. It turns out I used to go to school w/ someone she HATES. I could actually see the IOIs pop up once she started talking about that. We're getting together next week. Let's hope for no flakey behavior.

Scoundrel made a post on here somewhere explaining what he does to ensure the girl doesn't flake. Basically, he calls her a few hours before the meet up to make sure it's still on. If she says she can't make it he says "Oh, what a relief....That's good to hear. I was just calling to tell you....An old friend of mine just came into town and wants me to take her out on the town tonight." Or some BS like that. Then maybe she won't flake the next time. If you look for his post I'm sure you'll find it.
