Where To Buy Threads Thread . . . Cool places for clothes


I use to have a room mate that was a natural. The girls he brought home were hot! One of the things he did was always have something fashionable yet unique to his personal style. Very metrosexual.

His favorite place to find his clothes was down on Oak Lawn at what he called the "Gay Store". Don't know which one, but the gay clothes help his straight game.

When Hunter Rose was talking to me about where to find the the best places to get fashionable threads, I thought, brilliant. This is information that would be very useful to the community. So let's hear from some of you more fashionably sensible guys about where to go for smart trendy clothes in the Dallas area.

I think fashion isn't about price. I look for stuff that fits my personal style. I can usually find stuff just about anywhere. If anyone is interested in style shopping, I would be happy to go along and help with putting together a congruent look.

Think to make a great PU (peacock uniform) you need to go to a couple of different stores and combine styles. I usually mix vintage with business look. Also you can go with my justin timberlake theory

What ever you see him wearing in a video HB's are gonna think its hot!!

if i found something i like i would totally be willing to spend... 200 bucks for a pair of jeans i wear all the time is so worth it... i have yet to do this because i really havent seen anything that expensive and i hate the mall... recently i have found good clothes cheap at ross... its not what you spend but how it looks on you... i got a pair of jeans at ross for 2.99 and i have gotten a bunch of compliments on them... i got a cool sweater there for 11 bucks, i got 2 very cool blazers at marshalls that look great for 12 bucks a piece... a pair of sneakers for 25 bucks at ross that have gotten compliments... plus ross is a great place if you like latinas... i have never been there and not seen at least a few latina 8's... i need to work on my day game to take advantage... check out that ross at coit & campbell in the target shopping center across from home depot

anyway, most of my good finds have been on the clearence rack at ross or marshalls... sounds funny i know but its true... prices are cheap and it can be totally hit or miss but you don't need to spend money to look good

i used to never want to try shit on... i bought shit off the rack based on how it looked on a hanger and if i didnt like it when i got home i didnt wear it, or i just wore it sometimes... things have changed

I tend to go between the more conservative business type look to the edgier Rock Star side of fashion. You can easly flow back and forth between them, and blend them in interesting ways. I'll shop in both the Preppy and Urban style stores, but I don't know as much about those styles as I just don't feel comfortable in them, especially the baggy Urban/Hip-Hop style. I do still window shop them on a regular basis both to see any trends that might be interesting, and the occasional article of clothing that does fit my personal style.

I will buy stuff that grabs my attention from whatver store it is (as long as it's not expensive. Sales are your friends. ) I *have* invested in some quality clothes, including a fully custom tailored suit and shirts, leather jackets, and nice jewelry. I also feel fully at home combining that tailored suit with a $10 t-shirt and bracelet from Target, sneakers from Sketchers, and a belt buckle/belt from a mall kiosk stand.

Here's a breakdown of some of the places I look in regularly, along with where I think their clothes typically fit into my personal 4 main dress "styles". You should be able to find all of these stores between Northpark, Valley View, and Galleria malls.

Store Price range and short descriptions

Aeropostale - $ to $$ - Mainly preppy stuff, with small selection of accessories and good sales for jeans, etc.
Ambercombie (& Fitch) - $$$ - Frat boy (and girl) spring break shopping heaven.
American Eagle - $$ to $$$ - See above, but cheaper. Decent selection of bracelets, belts, etc.
Bachrach - $$$$ - Edgier side of business apparel, shirts, shoes, and suits. Some nice stuff if you can afford it.
Buckle - $$ to $$$ - Similar to Metropark, slightly cheaper.
d.e.m.o. - $$ to $$$ - Urban styles, baggy jeans, bling jewelry.
Express Men - $$$ - Good for seperates, blazer jackets, and pricier jeans.
Hollister - $$$ - Ambercrombie by another name.
Hot Topic - $$ - Edgy/rocker/goth/punk/etc. Great for funky t-shirts that are affordable.
JC Penney's - $$ - Middle of the road, conservative. Occasionally some nice stuff can be found, and good prices during sales.
Macy's - $$ to $$$$ - Wait for th ebig sales, then check 'em out. Good all around selection in the bigger stores.
Metropark - $$ to $$$$ - Great place to scope out edgy tees and accessories. Make sure to check out the sales rack in the back.
Oakley - $$ to $$$$ - It's Oakley. If you like their stuff, only place to go.
Old Navy - $ to $$ - Good t-shirts and jeans for cheap.
Ross - $ - You'll have to hunt, but diamonds in the rough can be found in any style.
Target - $ to $$ - Great all around place, and you can put together some damn good outfits on the cheap.
Walmart - $ - Chicks won't know where you got your Hanes boxers or socks from.

Don't hesitate to shop around some ethnic stores for cool items to wear. There are plenty of Chinese and Indian stores in the north dallas/richardson area with some cool looking clothes to give you an edge.

H_Raja: Good point. I used to do that back when I lived in San Francisco and LA where it was easy to hit up Chinatown, etc. but haven't really hunted down those areas here in Dallas as yet.
