Define "Dress Your Age"

Postby Dead Poet » Mon Jul 20, 2009 2:02 pm

I am having a difficult time grasping the concept, "dress your age." I guess I should give a little info about me. I am 35, work as a manager of a movie theater (trying to find a teaching job right now), I wear a shirt/tie/slacks to work every day, and really don't fell like wearing that after work. I generally hang out with people younger than me (21-28ish). Recently I have tried the "peacocking" with jewelry. The only people who called me on it were the ones who were more my age and married. None of the younger girls or guys said anything at all. I have since toned it down a bit. Now I wear a thumb ring on the right hand, and either this bracelet or a silver ball type bracelet with a black leather rope bracelet (both pretty skinny), and occasionally a necklace. I usually wear jeans and my shirt type varies from polo style to printed button-up to graphic t.

So, what is dressing my age?

It's not so much about dressing your age as it is about finding what's right for you. I'm 47 and people tell me I look like a rock star. The best advice I can give you is to look for a celeb that is close to your build and use him as a sort of guide.

I'm over 6 feet and weigh 225. I can wear things that wouldn't work on someone shorter or heavier. But, they can wear things that wouldn't work for me. So, forget about what's "in style" and start loking for YOUR style.
