Thouhts on using a joke for an opener?

What did the banana say to the hippo?

(could walk away and wait for them to re-engage or pass back and have them ask what, or could just stand and wait for response)

Bananas can't talk. (if they re-engage, look at them like they're crazy before answering)

I think it would be better if you asked them and when they ask you "what" tell them you can't tell them because you don't know them well enough.

I'm not saying this is bad. If you are in the "zone" anything will open. But, I do think you need a better joke. This one is sort of childish.
