Needless posts

Lately I've noticed a fair number of "needless" posts. These are posts that don't add anything to the discussion. Often they are one-line comments or jokes, but length is not really the distinguishing characteristic. What matters is whether the post adds any substantive value. I haven't been scolding users for needless posts, so this is partly my fault for being lax.

As a moderator, the line between a useless post and an almost-but-not-quite useless post is a judgement call that I would rather not have to make, so I'm asking:
Please try to hold back from posting unless you actually have something to say.

Extra clutter detracts from the usability of the forum for everyone else.

Thank you.

I have probably been the worst with this. I apologize.
