Sarging with a pivot
Generally, I prefer to sarge alone. The main reason why is that if bring someone to a venue I feel somewhat obligated for that person's fun and well-being. If I'm alone, I can pop in and out of sets with no problem, merge sets, make new friends, etc. I'm not tied down to anyone. It's good to have friends at the venue, but I prefer to be detached enough that I can wander off by myself and go on my own adventures.
So, I figured I'd feel different sarging with a pivot because because supposedly it's 10 times better than having a male wingman. The first time I went out with two lovely ladies, I wasn't out with the intention to sarge necessarily, but I had great results within every set I opened, and even went home with a few number closes.
But three nights ago I went out with just one lady and I couldn't shake that feeling of being responsible for her fun and well-being. On two seperate occassions I'd open a set, introduce my pivot, and within minutes the conversation would go sour and the girls would eject. It's not that I'd get flat-out rejected, but girls would get bored and take off. It's also possible that I wasn't doing a very good job with story telling and DHV, either, and generally controlling the interaction.
Another problem might have been that this girl didn't know I was using her as a pivot, we were I guess on a date in her mind. If she had someone else to keep her company I think I would have had more success. And I think another problem lied with me trying to intergrate her into the set. I did this very akwardly, I guess, because deep down inside I wished she wasn't there. So it would be this sort of ham-fisted introduction, "Oh by the way this is HBpivot."
