Dressing to pick up women.

Let me begin by saying that I am not a professional. I’ve had no training in fashion what so ever. But, every time I go out at least one woman tells me that I look great. And sense no one else seems to be writing about this in the PUA community I’ll take it upon myself. Besides, I LOVE fashion!

I’ll start with the most important. You need a great haircut and you can’t get it at PRO CUTS. Find a chick with really great looking hair and ask her where she goes. Don’t worry is she pays $150.00 for her haircut. You’re a guy and it won’t cost you that much. But, do plan on spending around $60.00 or so. It’s worth every penny. Just tell the stylist what you do for a living and he (she) will give you an appropriate cut. If you have a corporate job you’ll need a cut that can look conservative at work. But, if you work in a record store you can go totally Rock and Roll. Also, pay attention when she tells you how to style it yourself and buy the products she recommends.

The next most important thing may come as a surprise. It’s shoes. Women notice shoes!!! If you’ve got on a great pair she will notice. I’m a big fan of funky shoes, but not everyone can wear them. If you’re wide, you’ll need wide shoes like oxfords. If you’re tall and thin (like me) find shoes that look narrow. You’ll look better in loafers. Don’t pinch pennies here. A $200.00 pair of shoes will last you 10 or 15 years if you take good care of them. If you’re buying you first pair of good shoes, buy black. They’ll go with everything. And, wear black socks with them.

Tucked vs. un-tucked. There is a lot of controversy about men’s shirttails. The reason is that about a third of us look better tucked, a third look better un-tucked and a third can go either way. This has to do with your physical proportions. If you have short legs, you should tuck your shirt in. If you don’t it will cut you in half too low and your legs will look even shorter. On the other hand, if your legs are long and you tuck your shirt in you’ll look like a stork.

Okay, let’s talk about peacocking. Peacocking is all about the accessories you wear. I prefer stainless steal because it goes with everything. If you’re into gold you may have some trouble with it matching some of your outfits. Match your belt to your shoes. Any leather do dads and gee gaws you have should also work with your shoes. That includes your watch band unless it’s metal. NEVER MIX METALS!!! Do not wear a gold chain with a silver or stainless steal one. Also, I have a preference for mat finish metals. Again, I find they go better with most anything. However, if your going to wear some shiny stuff make sure your shoes are polished and shiny too. Oh, and get a few fun belt buckles!

If you smoke, get a cool lighter. Zippos are great! Much more stylish than a plastic disposable lighter. But, you might want to think twice about getting one with a picture on it. Just match it to your other stuff and it’ll be fine.

The important thing about your clothes is that they give off the right vibe about you. Remember, you are not your clothes. It’s just your wrapper. Next time you go shopping ask the sales person to recommend something and try it on no matter what it is. You may be surprised how good you look in it.

If you guys are interested in this sort of stuff, I’ll write more about it. There’s so much to say on this subject, I could go on for hours. Let me know.

Do you subscribe to Mystery's over-the-top peacocking style? I finally saw him online and man he's out there. I'm more conservative I guess. What accessories can you use to replace Mystery's freakin' Abe Lincoln hat? I was going for fake ear piercings, and maybe a couple of rings.

Clothes make the man, but accessories make the man fabulous.

Mystery is over the top and I’m that way as well, but different. If you feel like you can pull off a feather boa, go for it! Although, if I wore one I’d feel like a drag queen in it.

Something I don’t think I mentioned above is that I have a stash of cool belt buckles. These are fun because if you see an HB looking at it you can bust her for looking at your package. I have a couple of guitar buckles, a skull, one with a winged heart and one with my first initial on it.

You asked about an earring. Earrings work for some guys and not for others. I wear one and have for over 20 years. If you want to try it out, keep it simple at first.

Buckle has some of the hottest clothes

Postby Bishopknight » Mon Nov 13, 2006 9:30 pm

I really like 7 diamonds for collared shirts that fit you well, and dont skimp on a pair of pants, get something that isnt baggy. You can even find cheap pairs of pants at Kohls that look like $80 pants at buckle if you take your time, try on pairs and compare the looks.

In fact, kohls has alot of stylish stuff buckle has that you cant tell the difference where you got it, but kohls doesnt have 7 diamonds type of fitted shirts so you need to pony up $70+ for one of those. Trust me its worth it.

I always have to take my collard shirts to a tailor. If they fit my arms and neck, they're too big around the chest and vice versa. the only ones I've found that fit off the rack cost about $120.00 each. I found it to better to buy the shirt for about $30 and spend another $15 to have it fitted.

Hey, this is my first info post, hmmm, I'm and artist talking about fashion, I may have to use some kind of "I'm gay" opener. Anyway. My mother works for one of the premier couture fabric stores in the U.S., The Asian woman who won season 2 of Project Runway used to buy all her fabrics there. Emmet Smith and Michael Irvin's tailors shop there. My mother met Michael Irvin a few times. It's called Kaye Fabrics. She has my fathers shirts custom made, It will run you about 70 bucks and would be made by some of the top tailors in this part of the country. I guarantee they will be hip to make something that would show of their fashion skills.

You are right there is not much good info on this in the community. The peacocking thing is good, but most guys screw it up because they have 1 cool peacocking piece and it has no relevence to their overall look. Then you see the guys who have no overall relevence to the culture we live in with their look.

My opinion on it is to choose a look that causes women to view you as a sexy guy. Then do that look and that look alone, so you don't confuse the women. They should look at you right away and understand what you're going for- preppy? rocker? hip hop? suit guy? OK thats all well and good just don't be confusing by mixing khakis with peacocking hats and spiked bracelets.
i wrote a longer piece on this, i'll look for it and post it if you guys want.

As far as what type of look to go for, I say, First decide what kind of woman really attracts you. My 3 favorites are goth/psychobilly chicks, rennie chicks and artsy chicks. Then I take a look at what attracts them and then pick from that what looks good on me. Or at least I did back when I used to go out all the times. That was before the dark times. before the EMPIRE... but I digress.

As far as what I wear now, I have a charcoal gray Pin stripe suit that looks slick with my white chuck Taylors, A look I stole from the new Dr. Who, I also have a black short sleeve "martini time" shirt with silver dice buttons, black leather pants, black ostrich cowboy boots, beat up old engineer boots, a classic biker leather, custom tee shirts (original art work on them) and an old 3/4 length black leather coat. I have a white gold chain that I wear quite often.

Tonight I bought 2 nice shiny dark button down shirts, one blue which sets off my eyes and one red. Along with that I found a nice black velvet blazer. The other day I bought 2 identical necklaces black chord with a polished stone to try the "Are you a thief" lock in I read about in The Game.

The as for what I already had, I mix and match. The other night I went to Kinki in lower Greenville with my brother in my Martini time shirt with wife beater under it, my pinstripe pants from my suit and my white chucks. My whole look was dark until you hit the chucks, they stood out in that crowd. I got a bunch of complements on having the guts to wear them. It worked well with my artist profession. Of course I could be kidding myself I may have looked like a complete dumbass, but I did open a bunch of sets positively and numbered 1. My goal was just to get into a venue and open 6 sets.
