What's up gentlemen. I have a problem that has been burdening me and request your council. I know it might sound trvial but I do respect your opinions and it has been fucking with me. I met HB9 during the summer at the river, before this fall semester and it inadvertantly turned into a LTR. She ironically ends up sharing my upper division French class with me. However, she does not sit next to me because some else sat down first. Sitting next to me is a HB10 I call Manhands. I tell her I can't give her a 10 because she has man hands, which I mercilessly neg her for, thus the clever nickname. It is French so I DHV on a regular basis in class and Manhands reads a lot and so do I so we also talk about reading a lot. So anyways manhands is really cool and I dig her but the LTR is super jealous everytime we laugh in class I can feel the daggers coming from her. This is where it gets tricky. Manhands and I never really talked about relationships because it never came up even though we are partners. Not to mention I can't really flirt as much as I would like because of the LTR's constant supervision, but we do just always laugh and have a good time. Well the semester is over and it just came up that I have a girlfriend and Manhands was all like "oh really, that's too bad." And so it's wierd because not only yes I do have a girlfriend, but she's ALSO in the class, AND sitting four seats over from us staring at you(which I didn't say). Anyways my LTR and I AND Manhands are taking the second half of the course in the spring. Manhands is already talking about how excited she is that we are going to be partners again and the LTR is adament about me sitting next to her and no where near Manhands. I am happy with my LTR and don't want to cheat or break up with her, I know she is being overprotective and a little jealous. However, I understand because Manhands is stupid hot and we DO have apparent chemistry. SO....

My question is this how can I communiate to Manhands over the christmas break tht I can't sit next to her next semester beause I have a girlfriend in our class, and she doesn't want us to sit together without jeopardizing the friendship that Manhands and I have?

It's going to be a little shady on your behalf when she realizes who your LTR is...so be prepared for that. I'd just tell her the truth. Wait until the 1st day of class and mention that you're going to partner with your girlfriend. As much as you'd like to partner with her, that it would be disrespectful. Don't mention the LTR's jealousy or anything. Maybe suggest that you two could still study together here and there.

Also, you need to find a way to show the LTR that your relationship with HB10 is platonic...even though it may not be. You might even go as far as studying with BOTH of them.

I think taking the truthful route will keep HB10 around as a friend, and she'll respect your honesty about it...which could work in your favor later if you breakup with the LTR and start pursuing her :)

I ended up telling Manhands that she is an awesome listener and like my little sister putting her in the freind zone. When she asked about my girlfriend I told her we weren't that good of friends and maybe I looked at her them more as an adopted step sister then a real sister. That way I by passed the awkwardness of the LTR and still controlled the frame. That way next semester I there won't be any wierdness because I have already disqualified her but at the same time maintained a playful tone for future possible romantic endeavors. Inadvertanlty though, I discovered a new tactic, the whole step sister frame. I used the little sister disqualifier before, (Style or was it Mystery) however I believe I nice addition would be the step sister frame. That way when you start escalating you can be like "we are brother and sister, you shouldn't look at nme like that" that will give her the hoop to jump through that she will say not we are "step brother nad sister remember?" and if she not smart enough to draw this conclusion then you can lead her to it. Not field tested though, just theory so if anybody does try I am curious to know that actual validity of application.
