First, lets set the record straight: In this post, by 'attraction', I'm not referring to the broad general sense of making a girl like you. I'm referring to that thing that happens where she doesn't really know you just yet....but she feels compelled to be around/with you.
And ultimately, the point of this post can really be summed up in saying that a great way to understand 'attraction' (in the context that I'm discussing it) is to take advantage of the fact that the truly best explanation of it is a purely empirical one.
We've all felt it (even guys....especially guys) where we see some girl and we are attracted to her (more than just physically...or so you think atleast).
You find her intriguing. Physical attractiveness usually plays a part (maybe a bigger part than we're aware sometimes), but more-so she just seems like "that girl who is the kind of person I really like being around........and I definitely wouldn't mind hittin that".
The community might call this feeling the start of 'one-itis'. A layman might call it 'interest' or a 'crush'.
Truth is, I haven't really had this feeling for a girl in a while....which really isn't something I want to see continue forever....but I remember it from the beginning of any not-just-friends relationships I've had with girls; So what I'm talking about here applies to everyone...not just the new guys.
I was thinking about this whole attraction thing on my way home from work yesterday (a good 45mins), and it became obvious that it's so much easier to understand when relating it to your own experiences with it.
So the next time you hear someone say "...I was in attraction..." or "...at that point she was attracted...", consider relating the state she was in back to the last time you had a real crush on a girl.
I'm not necessarily talking about that hottie that sits on the other side of the office/classroom that you just think is hot.
I'm more referring to that girl you liked that you only kinda knew....or had exchanged 1 or 2 sentences with....or maybe even became friends with, but you fell for her.
That's the kind of feeling/state/whatev you should be aiming to induce in a girl.
So I could probably blab on about this for much longer; But I'm not a fan of writing out deep stuff like this because I get so ADD about covering all possible bases that I just get bored and wind up scrapping the whole thing.
(Yup, I'm the worst kind of engineer: It's gotta be perfect or nothing.)
So I'll end here with something short and sweet to consider:
The next time you want to initiate a pickup: Your first goal is to induce in her (toward you) that feeling you felt for your last real crush.
Make it a relation to your own experience, and you might do better in understanding exactly where you need to get her headspace to.
