I don't see anything wrong here with being honest.
First you go to a pretty prestigious school. This is no doubt a DHV.
Second while some girls are all about a guy with a really good career this is actually a small percentage. What girls really want is a guy who is at least headed in the right direction. As long as you are working hard to be well educated and on the path to a good job you are ok in their eyes.
If you pull a cougar understand that it will mainly be for a romp in the hay. When it comes down to it a girl who is much older than you probably wants different things and is at a different stage in her life. She already has her career going and is probably looking for a counterpart. However this doesn't mean she isn't willing to shag you on occasion.
One thing you can do is say I go to ______School and I am studying to be an Accountant, Lawyer, Banker, Scientist, whatever your actually field is. They will probably find this interesting and it shows that you know what you want.

I always tell them something humorous and a little off the wall! Generates more attraction than telling them what I actually do for a living.

Howie's right.
Just make up something off-the-wall and crazy. Something that you obviously don't do, then move on to something else.

I'd refer to what you do in a creative way. I'm an IT guy. I tell girls, "Ya know that internet thing you use to myspace your friends? Yeah...I make that work."

I used to make shit up too that I thought was funny. It probably was funny but it was a DLV too.
Now I just be honest since my occupation is a pretty good DHV and it works much better.
I do agree though if you do something mundane like IT that explaining it in a different way is much better. Smirks your example is very good.

I dont think you could pull that off...yet.
But all in all, I believe honestey is the best course of action. Other than playing it of (I work at a chocolate factory...etc.) I think that being honest in your
career is a pretty good bag IF you are truly passionate about what you are studying and why.
Ambition...is sexy ;)
