PC I have done this with success as well.

Some people may not be aware of this but girls play this response mirroring shit too. One of my female friends does it constantly and when I asked her why she used the same rationale that has been posted here. Girls are probably not as exact as PUAs tend to be but they to play a lot of games. The 1/2 mirroring that PC mentioned is just a way to break girls out of that and get her to respond more normally.
