Well, I must say, I am a bit confused on this. Some people like mystery and brad p (my favorite "guru") all say that doing cold reading and palm reads are great.
Well, today I started reading the gunwitch method, I thought it sounded interesting. In there he states that cold reads and palm reads are for losers, and they they do not progresse you any closer to a close.
What are your thoughts on this? Seems like there is some contradictory info here. Also, what method do you think is best?

All depends on how skilled you are at it. Definitely done in comfort, and used for escalating kino...getting closer proximity/kissing range...the last "palm line" I typically am damn near right up on her cheek then just turn, run my hand slowly from her neck to the back of the head to grab a bit of hair...and BAM.

Attempted palm read, (full disclaimer: most likely completely uncalibrated,poorly delivered)
The girl literally turned a walked away. Complete crash and burn. never attempted again. and quickly realized that overt style of game was not suited to me... still cringe at the thought of that experience.
Palm reads and cold reads are very different things though and should not be lumped together.
Cold reads are fine(and can be great) delivered subtlety and within context of a conversation.
My take on gimmicks like palm reads are that they are just that.... gimmicky. they aren't the thing that "works" or causes breakthrough. The girl was already there for you, and she was just buying along and basically waiting for you to escalate. If you want stuff like that you probably would have better luck with the cube, strawberry fields, or the different bar napkin drawing routines, if those aren't totally blown out at this point in the community.

I used to have palm reading memorized back when I was active with Austin society members. It's just like a little game. Nothing too serious.
It's safer to use it when you have hooked the set. When you hooked them, they are more likely to participate. They will be willing to listen to ur little palm reads and cold reads. If you try this when the set is not hooked, success rate will be lower.
Of course, you could try to use this to hook the set. I don't know. It all depends on individual's skills and styles.
I used to love using palm read to get girls hooked.
Edit: i had tried to use this to one chick who was all into psychic stuff and palm reading shit. She basically called my palm reading bullshit and laughed. So yea hopefully you don't use this on a girl who is all into that crazy stuff lol lol.

Ok palm reading can be very useful during an isolation, but that's about it. I actually used it Saturday night with a first date. I told her that this is her life line and this is her love line, then i stopped and looked up at her. I say, "OMG do you know what this line means?" She replies laughing, "No what?" and i respond, "I have no idea i'm just bullshitting." Worked pretty well for me.

I agree with TopDog, palm reading and cold reads are very very different.
Palm reading can easily come off as gimmicky and weird. Normal people don't read palms in bars.
Cold reads usually don't come off as weird. They can be very useful for pushing the frame in the direction you want.

Cold reading is just guessing something about her. Or making fun of her in a fun way. You are speculating that she is a really big nerd or something. Girls tend to eat that shit up. They love when you know something about her that she hasn't told you. Use it in seriousness or to have fun.
I think I did the palm reading once or twice but here is my version. Feel free to use it as I haven't in months.

Which is why you always see the experienced guys emphasizing getting out and trying tactics in the field. You can read about different stuff for months and until you try it, you really don't know how it will work...until you see how it goes down in the field, how it goes down for YOU, and how it really fits into the big picture.

I play it by ear on how the interaction is going.. Palm reading is something I've studied but haven't implimented in the field yet..
COLD reading on the other hand is gold... Their face when you guess their sign spot on is priceless.. Or just speak a truism.. AWESOME way to ellicit values from her then build rapport..as playercool mentioned even some cold reads or frame projections can be negs.. "Oh you're the decision maker.. And you.. You're just.. Well.. Bad. :)"

ever since I left Austin I have forgotten 2-3 routines I memorized. I never really bothered to learn any of cube, and original routine stuff. I was too lazy to memorize things lol. Those 2-3 routines were the only ones I ever memorized. (altho I don't remember shit anymore)
I just go free ballin with no canned materials. It seems ok to go all free-style. I am just too lazy to read books lol. I still haven't read anything other than "the game."
