Project Evolution

Postby Guest » Sun Apr 25, 2010 11:14 pm

The boards seem pretty dead lately, except for the off topic section and the political rhetoric flying around there. So, I decided to type up some stuff I'm thinking about...and hopefully it will help others out too, and they will join in on it too.

Project Evolution, is one of my most recent endeavors I am working on in my current hiatus. Pretty much, how can I become a higher value person? What can I do to improve myself and become better rounded, a renaissance man in a way. How can I evolve to the next level.

I beleive that the foundation is the most important part of the house. Have a weak foundation, the house will crumble, have a strong one, and the house will last as long as you need it plus some. So I am going to work building a solid foundation, and in the process being a better individual.

My goal is to improve myself somehow everyday. Gain some more knowledge on something, read another book, gain another skill. Instead of being a zombie in front of the tv for a couple hours, take that time and expand your horizons. I have made a list of things I would accomplish in the near future, and motivate myself to finish them. As the saying goes "If you don't know where you are going, you will probably end up somewhere else"

Goals I will work towards in the meantime:
- I have a list of books I would like to tackle. I am currently reading some
Eckhart Tolle books, and I must say, they are quite good.
- Get into an instrument - As some of you know, I played violin and piano for awhile, but then let it go. I am thinking of getting back into the violin and learning the guitar also. I should practice about an hr per day.
- I recently signed up for a gym membership, not really sure on my goals here yet, but I should get a workout plan going here soon (thanks to prodigy!).
- Learn another language - I have always wanted to learn french. I downloaded the Rosetta stone program. I'll check it out and see how helpful it is, but I have heard a lot of good feedback for it.
- Learn Golf - I have taken some golf classes at my local community college in the past. Any skills I did obtain from this have long since rusted over. I will hit the driving range, practice, and try and get some games in there too.

Goals in the near future:
These goals will take me some more time to accomplish, either due to monetary issues on my part or for whatever reason.
- Learn Karate - I took karate for about a yr when I was 5, and got up to a yellow belt. I would like to get back into it eventually, not to mention the positives to being able to defend yourself if ever needed.
- Learn to cook - I don't mind living off of mac n cheese and captain crunch. But I feel I need to know how to cook, its just seems like a part of being high value.
- Become a connoisseur - I would like to know a lot about wines. I, myself am not huge into wines, but just like the previous goal, it has a sort of prestige to it to know wtf you are talking about when it comes to wines.
- Learn dancing - I think it would be pretty cool to learn ballroom dancing. Corny? Maybe, but I think I'd dig it.
- Expand social circle - Maybe number closing at least once per week, guy or girl. The goal here is not to sarge, but to make strictly friends, yes putting myself in friends zone on purpose. then I would need to set up some sort of event(like a party, get together, dinner, etc) to get everyone together. Haven't quite figured this one out yet.
- Get into art - I would like to eventually try and go to an art museum or exhibit at least once a month. Also, I would like to learn about the painters, both modern and classical.

Feel free to chime in on any aspect of the goals I made, or better yet, write what your goals are for the immediate future. Remember, you can never out-evolve yourself. So everyday you should be evolving even more and becoming a better person than you were the day before.

If you can stick to it you will definitely be well rounded. I still haven't figured out how to get some of these things down.

Lately I have really wanted to go wine tasting. I am pretty sure you can go to places pay a little money and they will have you sample 5-10 wines. I would love to enjoy wine. Currently I don't have a taste for it but I believe the right wines are out there that I can enjoy. If you ever wanna go to one of these just let me know. Right now I am down any time.

There is a saying. You can be bad at two things in life and still enjoy them. Sex and Golf. At one point in my life I was pretty solid at golf. These days I just really enjoy the game and can relax on the golf course. I rarely break 90 these days but it is still highly enjoyable. It is probably the hardest sport I have ever played.

Justus,

Good post. I would humbly suggest picking one goal, and only one, and putting all your energies into it. No one ever mastered anything multi-tasking. Multi-tasking is a great way to spread yourself thin and make only tiny implements of progress. Completely give yourself to one goal until you master it and move on to the next one.

It's all about dedication. It's great to want to do something but if you can't dedicate yourself to it, that's all it will ever be. A want.

My current goals are:

I want to go swimming with sharks because I am afraid of them, thanks to Jaws.

I'm waiting on some shirts in the mail. If they fit right I'm going to steam on the word "Alligator" onto one of them.

I want to drive across the USA. Either buy purchasing an RV or making it a camping trip and bringing a tent.

I want to travel the world.

The single goal that I am working diligently on is becoming a better poker player.

My life goal is this: I am pretending that I am sent back in time from my old age to live my life over again. To have a second chance to do all the things I would have wanted to do but didn't if I had chosen the same route as everyone else. To work all the time and worry about bills and health and other minutiae. That is the life of a slave. I choose to live the life of a free man. No one went to their deathbed wishing they would have worked more.

Essentially.....I choose to evolve.

We talk about being a man of high value a lot and I think a lot of us don't really understand what that means. We have this image of being like the Dos Equis spokesman. You know, be a man that has experienced a lot in his life and is full of interesting stories. And, I agree. But, sometimes it's as simple as being competent in a variety of different things. Knowing karate, your wine, a foreign language, etc is all well and good but what if you're a guy with a good career that you love, know fun places to go and things to do, have a great group of friends, and have a couple of hobbies that you love? Does this not make you a high value person to a lot of high value women?

Value isn't about what you do, it's about how you act. It's not about what you have, it's about how you go about getting what you have. It's not about experiences, it's about the passion behind your life. It's not about having fun stories to tell, it's how you interact with other people. All of the things you've mentioned are not a prerequiste to having high value, they certainly help, but they don't always add up to the value you seek.

Value is an attitude, not a summation of 'accomplishments.' Sure, accomplishments are a part of the equation, but I see them as more of a byproduct of value. You have accomplished these things because you have value, you don't necessarily have value because you accomplished these things.

I think having goals and hobbies are important and I salute you for seeking them out. But, I think you've got a lot on your plate and if you pursue all of these endeavors I think you're just going to spend all of your time working, which will burn you out over time. I'd carve them down to 2 or 3 things and then focus on them. Once you nailed those, move on to the next ones.

Good luck.

Great post Justus.

I think creating this post is a HUGE step in the right direction for you. For as long as I have known you, you did not seem motivated to really put forth the effort required to become great at pick up.

Now, you have set goals that will not only help you become a better PUA, but really, become a better MAN.

I applaud you in taking the first step and hope that you stick with it.

Don't be a lazy ass!

Damn, that is bad ass.

I do spend a lot of time thinking of things I should be doing but not doing them. I then think about how if I am an old man I am going to be pissed at myself for not at least trying some of the things I am wanting to do.
