First, let me say that your energy level is CRITICAL to your success. If you open a set and the conversation lulls, you are OUT. The main reason it will lull is because you just don't have the right energy level. When your energy level is where it needs to be, conversation just seems to be more natural and free flowing. It's probably got a lot to do with facial expression and unspoken sub-communications, but we all know, if the energy level isn't just right, it's tough sledding.
I've always used alcohol to get my energy level where it needs to be. I've experimented with red bull, vitamins...nothing seems to smash AA like alcohol.
Anyway, aside from having your AA smashed by alcohol, which is a good thing, the list of bad shit from alcohol seems to go on and on forever. Hangovers. Inability to carry coherent conversation (Uh, what's your name again?) DWI's. It fucks your complexion (red cheeks & nose...not attractive) Increases the aging process. Whiskey dick. Long story short, alcohol has a TON of negative effects.
So anyway, about 3 months ago, I got my teeth whitened at the dentist. It was one of those laser things. Anyway, for the first 3 days they say don't eat anything that would stain a white shirt...no grape juice, no iced tea, no coffee, no wine, that sort of thing.
Well, I figured I might as well just give up coffee permanently since I'm gonna go 3 days without it anyway. I figured it must be pretty bad because every time I drink the stuff, I get diarrhea. So I gave it up. Then, over the next few weeks or so, I started getting these mild head aches. I couldn't figure out what was causing them.
Then I realized that if I went to lunch and drank several glasses of iced tea, I'd still get diarrhea. What's interesting about this is, iced tea used to never cause it when I was drinking coffee every morning.
Then I talked to a friend of mine. He had figured out some interesting shit about caffeine when he worked in corporate america. He said he would drink coffee every weekday when he went into the office. But then on Saturday & Sunday morning, he wouldn't. But every Sunday night and Monday night, he ALWAYS got these head aches. He finally figured out that the lack of caffeine from the coffee was causing his headaches like 36 hours later.
So about a month ago, he and I COMPLETELY gave up caffeine. SOmething he noticed, that I didn't, was that he had gained like 7 pounds over the 3 or 4 weeks of no caffeine. I have also gained a little weight, but I was hoping it was muscle (I work out, he doesn't). Almost all of the diet pills, or at least a lot of them, have high levels of caffeine.
Long story short, caffeine is a VERY strong drug, but because we are exposed to so regularly, we don't realize it's effects. It's so common. It's in coffee. It's in tea. It's in Coke & Dr Pepper.
So after a month of no caffeine, I decided to drink a Red Bull before going out this weekend to see how it worked. Wow! All I can say is, it's amazing. I still have to experiment with this some more, but I'm thinking I can pretty much replace alcohol with Red Bull.
