The Nerd Look.

Postby Scoundrel » Sat Nov 28, 2009 12:09 pm

I wear reading glasses. I don't usually use them when I'm out, but I always carry them just in case.

On a lark I took a pic of myself wearing them and put it on my internet dating profile. Suddenly I'm getting looked at a lot! And by some really hot, young chicks.

So, if you wear glasses don't be worried about what the girls may think. It seems more than a few are into the nerd look.

In context of everything you wear it can definantly help. Nice glasses could help too. Glasses are another accessory. Damn that sounds gay :)

I'm an optician and through work I have gained a large collection of trendy eyeglasses, my favorite pair is a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers that always gets attention. I get a lot of girls and guys alike saying "I love your Ray Bans!" or "where'd you get those glasses?" , to which I usually reply something about me being an "eyeglass stylist." I've noticed too that the fact that the frame says "Ray-Ban" in big silver letters on the side draws more attention then when I had a pair of knock offs without it. Funny how that works.

Just some advice on picking out glasses if you can afford it go ahead and pay the extra for the Premium Anti-Glare or Anti-Reflective Coating (the cheap stuff tends to peel and scratch pretty easily). Its basically a treatment that'll give your lenses a matte look to them and cuts almost all glare. It's literally as close as you can get to not having a lens in your glasses and it looks really good, You can literally take a picture in your glasses without worrying about the glare. If you ever watch an actor wearing glasses in a movie notice that his lenses have a greenish glare to them, its the AR coating.

As far as picking out frames goes I prefer the chukier frames that really stick out, stuff like this:

six of my seven original pair are from this company and aside from my ray bans they're next in line. If you don't like chunky glasses and prefer a more subtle look then try getting a pair with the name brand on the side, mundane looking glasses vs. mundane looking glasses with PRADA written on the side, see the difference?

Glasses aren't for everyone though. I'm a musician, and I like to stick out in a crowd so the whole "mexican buddy holly look" just works for me. Others come in and try to pull it off but it just doesn't work for them. I'm confident that most anyone can find a pair of glasses thats flattering and becoming of them but some just don't care for them. To each their own.

I've gotten way too into this, but as a final note make sure whatever optician you're working with looks like he/she knows how to dress themselves and knows what they're doing if you ask questions and they start to stall or don't know how to answer you have them ask a manager. unfortunately in the state of texas you're not required to be certified in opticianry to practice it so you get a lot of people who literally went from working at a mcdonalds to getting a job at eyemasters through a friend (ofcourse this doesn't apply to everyone i've met a lot of really good people in the field, just be cautious). don't be afraid to ask for second opinions from other employees or even other patients either. Hell, just call me and i'll pick you out a pair, i once had a guy tip me a 100 dollars he liked his glasses so much!
Never had sex with a 10...NEVER! but one night I nailed five 2's and I think that should count for something.
